Challenge #4
Movie Night

This challenge involves watching one of the movies below and creating a graphic or sketchnotes to represent ideas that connect with class.
What you need to do:

  • Watch one of these movies:
    • Ferris Bueller's Day Off (1986)
    • School of Rock (2003)
    • Mr. Holland's Opus (1995)
    • Lean on Me (1989)
    • Stand and Deliver (1988)
    • Dead Poet's Society (1989)
    • Pay it Forward (2000)
    • McFarland (2015)
    • Hoosiers (1986)
    • The Great Debaters (2007)
    • Teach (2013)
    • Dangerous Minds (1995)
    • To Sir, With Love (1967)

  • Create a graphic using Canva or create sketchnotes that captures some of the ideas from the movie and how they connect with our class and teaching. For example, in School of Rock, Jack Black brings his passion into the classroom by playing his guitar. He develops relationships with students, but he has not clue about teaching. In Ferris Bueller's Day Off, we learn what not to do by watching the econ class and it makes us think about relationships with the administration and students. You can create a graphic/sketchnotes that align with what we've talked about in class, or things that don't align. Be creative with your graphic and have fun with it.

  • Upload your graphic/sketchnotes to Seesaw > Chasing Einstein - Pedagogy Quest and add a brief audio comment about what you created.
What you'll earn:

  • 500 - 2,000 EPs
The points earned will depend on the amount of effort put forth in your graphic and your audio explanation. You can complete this challenge several times. Go ahead and do it for each movie on the list. If you think of other good teaching movies, share them with me and I'll consider adding them.
