Chasing EinsteinOverview
Chasing Einstein is a game-based mathematics experience I designed to help elementary and middle school students build confidence, perseverance, and positive mathematical habits. By combining instructional design, gamification, and visual design, the project encourages students to think deeply, collaborate, and embrace productive struggle. My Role
The Challenge Many students experience mathematics as a collection of procedures rather than an opportunity to explore, create, and solve problems. My goal was to design an experience that made mathematics more engaging while encouraging students to develop the habits of successful mathematical thinkers. The Design Drawing on principles of gamification, students earn Einstein Points by demonstrating perseverance, collaboration, curiosity, and strategic thinking—not just by getting correct answers. The project includes classroom challenges, team-based activities, custom visual branding, digital resources, teacher materials, and a companion website. The Result Teachers have used Chasing Einstein to increase engagement, encourage collaboration, reinforce positive math identities, and create classroom cultures where curiosity and productive struggle are celebrated. Reflection Chasing Einstein has been one of the most rewarding projects I've created. The positive feedback from teachers and students continues to inspire me to expand the project. I'm currently exploring AI-assisted ("vibe") coding to build interactive mathematics challenges that make learning even more engaging. |
