Academic Role and Expertise
I am a professor in the College of Education at Dakota State University, where I teach undergraduate and graduate courses in mathematics education, STEM education, and educational technology. Beyond teaching, I design digital learning experiences, instructional products, and classroom resources that blend learning science, visual design, illustration, and technology. I enjoy creating products that make complex ideas intuitive, engaging, and enjoyable to learn.​

Creative Ventures

• Stationery Business Co-Founder: In 2017, I co-founded the stationery business, Kevin & Kaia, with my daughter. What began as an entrepreneurial project to fund a school trip has grown significantly. We now distribute our greeting cards, postcards, and stickers to more than 350 retail locations worldwide.
  
  
• App Development Founder: I founded the educational app company, Top Class Apps, in 2012 with Dr. Kent Steen. Our three apps (Spelling Star, Math Mountains: Add & Subtract, and Math Mountains: Multiply & Divide) were available in the Apple App Store from 2012 to 2024 and achieved over 500,000 downloads in more than 120 countries.
