DSU CHALLENGES

DSU Challenges

These are the challenges for the DSU Math Mentors.

​Complete as many of these challenges as you would like. Earn as many Einstein Points (EPs) as you can! New challenges will be added throughout the semester. Some challenges will expire at specific times.

Challenge 1 - Khan Academy Energy Points

Earn energy points in Khan Academy.

The maximum number of points you can earn for this challenges is 300,000.
1 energy point = 1 EP

Challenge 2 - Khan Academy Badges

Earn badges in Khan Academy.
1 badge = 100 EPs

 Challenge 3 - Twitter

Tweet an article or video that relates to class.
  1. Tweet the article or video and include #eled330 and #chasingeinstein.
  2. Take a screenshot of your tweet and share it in Seesaw > Chasing Einstein Challenge.
  3. Add a brief audio explanation that talks about how it connects with something we've talked about in class.
1 tweet = 500 EPs

Challenge 4 - Solve Me: Mobiles

Complete a Solve Me: Mobiles puzzle.
  1. Login in.
  • username: k8mathmethods
  • ​password: mathisfun18!
  1. Solve a puzzle.
  2. Take a screenshot.
  3. Share your screenshot in Seesaw > Chasing Einstein Challenge.​
  4. Add this caption to your screenshot - "Mobiles puzzle #XX - XXX EPs"
​* Puzzles can only be solved 1 time for the class. If a puzzle has a star, someone has already solved it.

​Example:

Challenge 5 - Solve Me: Who am I? 

Complete a Solve Me: Who Am I? puzzle.
  1. Login in.

  2. Solve a puzzle.
  3. Take a screenshot.
  4. Share your screenshot in Seesaw > Chasing Einstein Challenge.​
  5. Add this caption to your screenshot - "Who am I puzzle #XX"

Challenge 6 - Sketchnotes 

Create a sketchnote of something we've talked about in class. Here are a few ideas:
  • Manipulatives, math routines, key ideas from the course, gamification, Math Talk, a capter from the book, attitude about math
  • Example 1   Example 2
 
  • Take a screenshot of your sketch.
  • Share your screenshot in Seesaw > Chasing Einstein Challenge.​

Challenge 7 - Attend SD EdCamp * NEW *

Attend the South Dakota EdCamp in Brookings on February 24, 2018. This was postponed to April 14, 2018.

I'll be at the EdCamp. You just need to check in with me at some point during the day. 

This is a free event, but you need to register in advance.

Challenge 8 - Math Mentor Videos * NEW *

Each week you're creating videos for your 5th grade teammates. Be creative and do a good job explaining the math practice standard and earn EPs. 
EPs determined based on creativity and quality.

Challenge 9 - In-Class Challenges

We will have a variety of in-class challenges. This may include things like iPad app wars, estimation 180 puzzles, group problem solving exercises, and Kahoot games to name a few. Each in-class challenge will be a different number of EPs depending on the complexity.

Challenge 10 - iPad App: Motion Math: Pizza!

Get the high score for a single day in Motion Math: Pizza!
  1. Take a screenshot of the screen that displays your profit for the day. (Make sure it is a high score.)
  2. Share your screenshot in Seesaw > Chasing Einstein Challenge.
  3. Add this caption to your screenshot - "Pizza high score"

Challenge 11 - iPad App: Equify

Complete an Equify puzzle. 
  1. Take a screenshot of the screen that displays that you've completed the puzzle correctly.
  2. Share your screenshot in Seesaw > Chasing Einstein Challenge.
  3. Add this caption to your screenshot - "Equify"
** You can only submit 10 puzzles for EPs. So, you can earn a total of 2,500 EPs for this.

Challenge 12 - iPad App: Math Doodles

Play all the games in the Math Doodles app and then do the following.
  1. Take a screenshot of the screen that displays one of the games you really like.
  2. Share your screenshot in Seesaw > Chasing Einstein Challenge.
  3. Add an audio caption that explains why you like the game and tell me which math standard it addresses. (Keep in mind the games could address a lot of different math standards. I'm just looking for you to think about how the app aligns with the standards.)
** You can only do this one-time.

​* EPs will depend on how well you've aligned the game/activities to the standard(s).
